Louis Rastelli has been a longtime comrade, commentator and curator to the Montreal arts scene. He has brought us the fabulous zine Fish Piss (RIP) , created an art dispensing vending machine called the Distroboto, organizes events such as Expozine , and has been published in Saturday Night, Vice, and the Montreal Mirror.
Last Tuesday, friends of Rastelli’s assembled at the Casa del Popolo to celebrate the launch of his debut novel, “A Fine Ending.” The attendees of this literary soiree were treated to a short video presentation which was narrated by the local luminary himself. Images of the infamous St. Jean Baptise riots moved across the screen alongside footage from jamboree nights, outdoor concerts, and an early Corpusse (!) show.

The book, which takes place in Montreal during the 90s, chronicles the life of a struggling underground musician. Much of the story is littered with references to real historical events such as the Ice Storm of ’98, and expired but well-loved venues such as the Jailhouse Rocks are mentioned as well. Nostalgia freaks and newcomers alike are encouraged to pick it up at the following places:
